Character Info
◎ Character's Name: Hikari Yagami
◎ Character's Canon: Digimon Adventure
◎ Character's Age: 8
◎ Canon Point: After defeating Piemon, before Apocalymon appears
◎ Background/History: Hikari @ Digimon Wiki
◎ Is the character a hacker and/or do they have a sixth-sense? Kind...of...? It's a little more complicated then that, and never fully explained in the series. Ever.
Hikari does often demonstrate an eery, overly mature way of either knowing certain things, or being able to hear what none of the other Chosen could. For example, she could feel the Numamon's pain from afar as they were being cruelly chained and whipped and forced to work under horrific conditions. She could hear the voice of a bodiless being who later temporarily possessed her body in order to communicate with the others. She could also sense her big brother's presence while lost in a sea of underground tunnels, using her Light in order to guide everyone to him.
Later in her canon, when she's 11, Hikari is also shown being able to hear crying digimon, her brother's voice from half a world away when he was taken by an evil digimon and sense when a digimon's heart had turned Dark.
Almost all of these instances are directly related to the people close to her, or digimon, and can be attributed to her Crest in some fashion.
◎ Personality:
Hikari is a very soft-spoken, mature child who acts far older than her eight years of age. Though bright and optimistic (one might even say she's Light-hearted), she possesses a serious exterior and secretive nature. She is sweet and gentle and often puts others before herself, be it their well-being or even their happiness.
When she was 4 years old, she went through a phrase where she would only communicate by blowing through a silver whistle, even though she was fully capable of speech. This only ever worked for her because her older brother, Taichi, knew her well enough to know what she meant.
When she was 5, however, she refused to admit to even him that she was still too sick to go outside and play soccer. Taichi had just gotten home and was excited and she didn't want to take him away from something he so clearly wanted to do. So she kept quiet to make him happy, and as a result, collapsed in the park not long after they'd started playing. Subsequently, she almost died in the hospital of pneumonia...and yet, when she eventually came home, her first and only words to Taichi were to apologize for not kicking the ball properly before she'd collapsed.
This habit continued even by the time she was eight years old. Once again stricken with a nasty cold, she waited until she collapsed in the middle of the road in the Digital World before telling anybody how bad she'd been feeling. At that point, her fever had spiked dangerously and she was in need of both rest and medicine. Her excuse had been the same as it always was: she didn't want to be a bother, and was worried about slowing the others down.
Self-sacrificing to a fault, Hikari was also willing to give herself up to Vamdemon's minions in exchange for the safety of her friends. The evil digimon had been looking for her, the Eighth Chosen Child, for some time, and Hikari knew fully well his intention was to kill her. Whatever fear she might have felt at the time didn't show. She stared him down with the utmost confidence. Her expression betraying very little, and her heart filled only with concern for those she cared about.
In spite of this bravery, however, Hikari was also notably dependent on her older brother. She loved and adored him to the point of near hero worship, and while she was aware of his surface faults, she genuinely believed he could do no great wrong. When he briefly returned from the Digital World and all too soon had to return without her...she watched him fly away without a single tear, although her hands held tightly to his until he'd floated too high, and she watched him disappear into the sky. Understanding, but still visibly upset. They had grown up together, with Taichi taking on the role of her protector, and she always felt safest when he was around.
(Something which carries over into her preteen years, to the point where even Takeru ends up yelling at her for relying too much on her brother rather than fight on her own.)
This isn't to say that Hikari was incapable of making friends. If anything, the bonds she formed outside of her family occurred fairly quickly. Before the incident in Hikarigaoka (which she was able to remember better than Taichi), when the little digimon egg first came out of her computer one night, it was Hikari who curled with it all night and made sure her big brother didn't try to fry it up over the stove or their cat attacked it. When it later evolved into Koromon, and then Greymon, she trusted the creature enough to let it take her for a ride throughout the city. Then there were her laters years. Wizarmon. Tailmon. She bonded with the latter even before Tailmon realized she was Hikari's digimon, and she somehow knew to trust Wizarmon almost from the start. Her trust was rarely proven wrong (indicating she is a decent judge of character as well).. She trusted the strange little cat creature who would turn out to be her long lost partner. She trusted Wizarmon, who proved himself loyal to the point where he was willing to die to save her. She trusted the mysterious voice calling to her in the Digital World. One no one else could hear.
And, when her brother wasn't around, she trusted in his friend Sora and--more notably--Takeru, a boy roughly her age, to take care of her. Keep her safe not only from the evil digimon chasing them, but from her own illness.
As the Eighth Chosen, and second youngest, Hikari was surprisingly the voice of serenity at times amidst the chaos of such a diverse group. She was one of the few who can calm down her brother's fiery temper. She was one of the few who never picked a fight with any of the others. Her sweet and gentle nature saw to that. She could also hold her own in battle, be it while fulfilling a mysterious prophecy by bravely allowing her Holy Digimon to shoot her brother with an arrow of Light, or standing up to Piemon with no one else but Takeru still at her side. Wise and well aware of her surroundings, there were moments in which she seemed strongly connected to the Digital World as the bearer of Light, and just as her crest is meant to bring Life to that world, so does she care for and protect that Life...all Life...with a little help from her friends.
◎ Powers/Abilities: Hikari is the bearer of the Crest of Light, which has been said to "give Life to the Digital World". As a Chosen Child, she has a digimon partner with whom she fights alongside by helping Tailmon to evolve and grow in power. However, unlike the others, she's shown certain abilities unique to her.
In times of extreme emotion, she's shown to emit a light--and not just the pink glow of her crest, but a bright, almost blindingly white light--that gives other digimon strength as well. The Numamon were powered by this strength, as were both Biyomon and Patamon. At one point, she even expels so much Light that she forces her brother's digimon to warp-evolve into his highest level (Ultimate) form. She also, as indicated above, has a sort of "sixth sense" when it comes to certain people or digimon close to her, able to user her Light to locate their presence from afar, hear voices others can't, or sense the pain and suffering--in some cases, the Darkness in their hearts--of others.
Tailmon, meanwhile, has a significant amount of power as a digimon. She can fight and use a number of attacks. The two most prominent ones are her "Neko Punch" and "Neko Kick," which are purely physical based. Though she stands out among most of the Chosen digimon by already being in her Adult form in terms of power (having evolved there naturally before meeting Hikari), all her main attacks are short-range.
Until she evolves, that is.
With Hikari's help (and the power of the Crest of Light), Tailmon can evolve into her perfect form of Angewomon, a Holy Angel digimon whose energy-based attacks of Holy Arrow and Celestial Beam are those of a long-range fighter...though she's not afraid to get into a scuffle if her opponent is asking for a good hair pulling.
If Angewomon or Tailmon's power decreases too much, on the other hand, she can revert back into her Child form of Salamon. In extreme cases, her In-training form of Nyaromon or even her baby form of Yukimibotamon. While Salmon might briefly appear after a particularly brutal battle, the latter two would have to be the result of severe weakening in order to revert her back that young. And always, because it was a natural evolution on her part, Tailmon would eventually regain her Adult form on her own once sufficiently rested.
◎ Weapons & Other Special Inventory:
-small, silver whistle. A very special small, silver whistle. Hey, that whistle's saved lives, okay? (no, it doesn't actually do anything other than tweet-tweet, but it's the sentimental value that means most)
-Digivice
-Crest of Light & Tag
-Tailmon, her digimon companion, who is also in possession of a Holy Ring on her tail.
CEREALIA-Specific
◎ Element: Water; in certain modern traditions, water is associated with both empathy and intuition, two things with Hikari possesses in spades. In addition, water is said to be essential to Life itself, just as the Crest of Light, and occasionally associated with cats. Hikari's partner, Tailmon, is a feline digimon.
◎ Sense: Sight; she is the Chosen of Light, after all, which helps guide her and those around her to either where they want to go, or where they are needed most.
◎ Seven Character Traits: (considerate, mature, strong) + (self-sacrificing, dependent, secretive) + quiet
